Assignment 4

The first picture was a picture from August of a comic book.  It was originally color, but I like how they look in black and white.  Some special edition versions come in only black and white so I like to see how the color only version would look if they were grayscale.  I can't really get rid of the flash at the lower portion of the photo thought which annoys me.

The flower photo is one of my first photos for the class that I thought was good so I added it in.  Its the first photo I actually liked as well.  It's from my dad's garden, yes my dad has a garden.  I like how the background is blurry and the flower is really detailed.

The leaf photo I included because I thought it was neat how the shadow of the leaf was cast onto itself because the leaf is slightly bent.  You can kind of tell that the shadow is a leaf in my opinion.  I just wish the grass was a little greener in the background so it would have contrasted more with the tan/brown leaf that is dead and dry.

  1. Hi Dayne - I really like your flower photo! The secondary color scheme really forms a beautiful pattern, like a vibrant material or cloth, and the angle of the shot pulls me into the background to see the other flowers in the upper corner. Beautiful!

  2. Hi!

I also really like comics and the artwork created. It's cool that you took a photo of a cover and turned it black and white. For someone who likes comics and has seen colorful ones, it shows how color vs. black and white can create a feeling or an atmosphere around the story line. This one, the Superman one, in black and one, makes it seem like more of a classic.

The flower image is pretty neat, as well. The clarity and color of the flower makes it look like it's popping out of the photo!

  3. Hi Dayne, this comment is in response to your blog as a whole.
First, you are missing a couple of different assignments: Assignment 1 includes posting a self portrait. Assignment two you need to include images that experiment with motion and blur. You have not posted an image that emulates your chosen "Great Photographer," Stephen Shore. Also, your best of the best assignment should include images other than what you have already posted...although I didn't not expressly state it, it could only help if tried to include more of your work rather than just repeats of images from previous assignments. Make-up this work and I will re-evaluate your grade.

Second, play to your strengths and interests when shooting. You have really done well with high contrast, colorful images, up-close shots of nature. Experiment and shoot many many many more images. The more you shoot, the more images you have to choose from, the more likely you end up with something GREAT!
